Care Instructions for Paintings

Owning a masterpiece is a great experience by itself. Taking care of it is an equal experience too! If you’re as curious as a fish, you’d have a lot of questions! While you may know much already, I take it as my responsibility to share some of the most significant ones. I wish you to keep your treasures in top shape by following these tips:

πŸ–ŒοΈ The simplest way to clean up an acrylic painting on canvas is to dust it gently using a soft cloth or a duster regularly. In case your painting has been exposed to dust and the colors seem dull, use a sponge or soft cotton cloth soaked in water. A gentle soapy water will also do wonders. Make sure to wipe over with clean water in the end to avoid leaving any soap on the surface. Be gentle with paintings with thick impasto/ texture, as you do not want to break hardened paint.

πŸ–ŒοΈ You may dust it gently everyday with a soft, dry cloth. For the wet cleaning, you may do it couple of times a year, depending on the level of exposure.

πŸ–ŒοΈ Works made from acrylic paint are resilient and can typically withstand sunlight. However, as a thumb rule, direct exposure to UV/ sunlight should be avoided as it may lead to fading of some pigments which could affect the color balance of the image.

πŸ–ŒοΈ Yes, all my paintings are varnished and sealed right after I finish and sign. Varnishing helps protect a painting by creating a sealing layer over the work. So rest assured, it is safe to display them near a window with an indirect sunlight, or a water body.

πŸ–ŒοΈ Any wall which is free of mold or moisture is safe for an acrylic painting. It is not advised to hang paintings over a fireplace.

πŸ–ŒοΈ Generally speaking, it’s okay to display your canvas in the bathroom, but you should avoid putting it too close to the source of humidity. As long as your canvas is at a fair distance from the shower, it will last a good number of years. Typically, an acrylic painting on canvas will be safe in relatively humid places even if it’s not framed in glass.
